According to a very modest Christian Svensson

2009 started off pretty slowly in terms of new releases, but Japanese developer and publisher Capcom saved the day as two of its most popular franchises, Street Fighter and Resident Evil, both saw new iterations being launched in February and March.

With both titles achieving some massive sales, as Street Fighter IV was the moral winner of the NPD software chart for the month of February, and Resident Evil 5 already shipped 4 million units, you can clearly state that Capcom is a very happy company. Chris Svensson, the vice president of the business development and strategic planning division for the Japanese corporation, reinforced this while he talked about the expectations Capcom had from Resident Evil 5.

“I think that's fair to say [we have high expectations]. We have an embarrassment of riches this year. There's no stress involved in the fact that both of these titles come within the last six weeks of our fiscal year! No stress at all with that! We've been very fortunate that things have come together. Leading up to this quarter it's been a lot of work and thank God things are playing out how we hoped they would.”

With the fiscal year closing in April and the next one already having titles like Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 on the launch schedule, it seems that the company is doing quite well in terms of franchises and will certainly make a profit in the near future.

Hopefully all of this means that even more money will be spent on development and that more high-quality titles will appear from the Japanese company.
