It hasn't been completely on the disk

The Resident Evil franchise is one of the most popular horror survival series of video games out there, with Capcom catering to the tastes of a lot of fans with each and every installment in the lineup of titles. Resident Evil 5, the latest iteration in the franchise, has been launched for quite some time and has sold extremely well.

But that didn't mean that Capcom couldn't further profit from the game, as it has released the first DLC for it a short time ago, in the form of a brand new multiplayer mode entitled Versus. The announcement of the download sparked a huge amount of controversy, for players were outraged because it wasn't included in the standard disk and they consequently needed to pay five dollars for it.

The first screenshots of the new mode, showcasing a lot of elements from the standard game, made fans even more furious, because they felt they were being ripped off and paying for things that were already on the disk. We've already heard Capcom discuss this fact once more, in an effort to calm down the fans, but a recent story made by gaming website IGN, which revealed that the download was actually 1.8 megabytes and 300 kilobytes in size for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, respectively, made fans angry once more.

Now, Capcom's Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategic Planning, Christian Svensson, has addressed some of the concerns published by fans on the official forums of the company. Here is what he had to say: “Keys are 100 [kilobytes] or less. It is not a key. We have said in the past, it uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.), but the code is new and does not exist on the disc.”

So, even though the new content is small in size, it doesn't mean that it will just unlock something that has already been on the disk. Hopefully, fans will become calmer in the following days and make their own decisions about buying or not buying this DLC.
