Earlier today we stumbled upon a rumor saying that Canon was preparing to announce later this month a new telephoto zoom lens that will probably replace the current EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS optic.

As previously reported, the company will be focusing this year on releasing new high-grade lenses and, according to CanonRumors, the Nippon giant will also introduce a new macro zoom lens with a focal range around 200mm.

The new optic will pack a constant aperture across the entire zoom range, maybe somewhere around f/3.5 or f/4, and it seems that a prototype of this lens is already out in the wild. Other bits of information point that this could be a 2:1 macro lens with a 1:1 reproduction ratio at the long end.

For the moment, Canon did not make any official announcements regarding its camera and/or lens lineup for the upcoming CP+ 2014 show, but we expect to hear more on February 12.
