Although not many secrets have been left to unravel thanks to last night's BestBuy pre-order listing, Canon has officially announced today its latest compact digital camera flagship model, the G1 X Mark II.

It comes equipped with a 12.8MP 1.5-inch CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 image processor that will offer fast AF speeds and high ISO sensitivity of up to ISO 12,800, which will allow you to take great shots even in low-light conditions.

In addition to that, Canon G1 X Mark II packs a newly-developed 24-120mm (35mm equivalent) lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.0-3.9 that features dual control rings, which will allow you to easily choose aperture and use manual focus, just like usual DSLR lenses.

Compared with its predecessor, which had only 9 AF points, the G1 X Mark II uses 31 Auto Focus points that further increase its AF capabilities in any given shooting conditions. On the back of the camera, users will find a bright 3-inch LCD display monitor with capacitive touchscreen that can be tilted up to 180 degrees up and 45 degrees down.

The camera also offers support for Canon's new optional EVF and grip that will give the G1 X Mark II a DSLR-like feel while preserving the portability of a point-and-shoot camera.

"The new high-end PowerShot G1 X Mark II camera delivers incredible, professional-level shooting capabilities in a compact camera body making it the ideal second camera for DSLR shooters," said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.

"In addition, with the introduction of advanced wireless capabilities such as NFC and enhanced low-light shooting and autofocusing, the G1 X Mark II is a well-rounded professional-level camera that allows photographers to get creative," he added.

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II will be available starting April 2014 at a suggested retail price of $799 / €585.
