CallWave, the company that aims to make mobile phones and computers work better together, has announced the launch of its text messaging Widget for the Apple Dashboard. The free desktop-based application will allow users to send text messages to anyone, anywhere directly from their desktop, whether their cell phone is nearby or not.

The CallWave 2.0 widget was developed to make sending text messages worldwide a lot easier and is expected to dramatically increase the text daily usage and adoption. The widget aims to solve a common problem mobile phone users have, the inconvenience of having to text on a mobile phone's small interface (small screen, uncomfortable keypad), by making the PC a natural companion to the mobile phone and delivering invaluable ease and efficiency.

Text messaging has become quite popular throughout the past few years and many mobile manufacturers have tried to come up with a way to make it even more appealing, like releasing devices packing full QWERTY keyboards. But in the end, nothing can beat the convenience of using a computer and a regular keyboard. Being aware of that CallWave is providing a widget that, while running on the Apple Dashboard, will allow users to view a list of contacts, choose whom to text and send text messages to at any time, anywhere. Replies to the messages will be routed to the subscriber's handset and users will be able to access their messages that are stored in a permanent, searchable archive, through a personal web page.

CallWave's Free Text Messaging widget is now available in beta, allowing users to send unlimited text messages in the United States and Canada throughout the beta. Currently, users will also be able to send up to 5 messages a day to other countries using the free beta service. The widget can be downloaded here and here. Also, aside from the Apple Dashboard, you can also personalize your Google or Yahoo homepage with the useful gadget, being able to send text messages at free will.
