The Call of Duty series of video games has offered some truly intense single player experiences, whether it was CoD 4: Modern Warfare or the most recent World at War title made by Treyarch. But another area where the franchise shined was the multiplayer mode.

They featured a variety of gameplay and highly customizable characters that could have been outfitted with different perks or qualities. The fact that the last two games are still some of the most played ones online stands as a testimony to their quality.

In order to generate even more hype for the World at War title, Treyarch has just announced that it would kick off the Weekend Warrior competition, in which players can fight it out and rank among the best ever to grace the title. Of course, this won't be in vain, as a lot of prizes will be offered for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms.

“Listen up troops. If you think you have what it takes to compete with the best soldiers on the battlefield, then we have some news for you. Saturday, June 27 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST and continuing Sunday, June 28 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST kicks off the inaugural Call of Duty: WaW Weekend Warrior competition, in which participating soldiers battle for top ranking. Soldiers with the highest combined kills from these two timeframes will earn top prizes for their courageous efforts. This Weekend Warrior competition is the kick-off contest to an ongoing series of competitions; so keep an eye on the Intel page to catch all future Weekend Warrior posts,” read the official announcements on the Call of Duty website.

You can check out the CoD website in order to find out the full details on the competition. Also, the prizes that will be won by the best players of the game during this competition range from a copy of the game for the Nintendo DS to limited edition apparel like hoodies or T-shirts in order to proclaim your love for the game made by Treyarch.

Until the competition begins, though, you'd better start training and improve your shooting skills right away. Look forward to more announcements about new competitions in the following weeks.
