Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the new first-person shooter from Activision, will see Russia continue its invasion of the USA, targeting New York, but the attacks won't take people back to the terrorist ones that hit the American city on September 11, 2001, at least according to one of its developers, Infinity Ward.

The Modern Warfare spin-off series that grew from the Call of Duty franchise has depicted a harsh conflict between American and British forces against formidable Russian ones, and, as we saw in the second game two years ago, Washington DC has already fallen pray to the Russian army.

Now, with the third game, the attack is moving up the East Coast of the US, targeting New York and destroying massive parts of it, as we saw in the recent videos of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

These scenes won't take people back to the terrorist attacks from September 11, 2001, however, as Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling believes they're quite different and people will no doubt figure this out.

"I'm not too worried about it because the conflict that's raging in Modern Warfare 3 is very different from any real life scenario because this is a war, this is a full-on Russian military invasion of the entire US that started in Modern Warfare 2," Bowling told msxbox-world.

"They have already disabled Washington DC and the war has just organically been progressing off the East Coast and the New York is a major city that would... So this is very different because it's full-on military fighting through the streets, so I think that's going to be very clear once people play it and get hands-on and see what type of conflict this is, and then it spreads to the other major cities."

The first trailer for Modern Warfare 3 depicted conflicts taking place in America, but also in the UK, Germany or France, so players can clearly tell that this is a global conflict, not just a terrorist-like attack on the USA.

Modern Warfare 3 is set to arrive for a variety of platforms, including PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 on November 8, from Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, published by Activision.
