Despite being very happy with how Call of Duty: Black Ops was received in 2010, the developers at Treyarch were sure that they could extract much more from their game universe and they were eager to get working on a sequel.

Mark Lamia, who is the leader of the Treyarch team working on Black Ops II, told AusGamers that, “As we were wrapping up Black Ops 1, the team was really firing on all cylinders.

“And while we really gave everything we had to that, and we were really happy with it, we kind of felt like, as a team, that was the first time that the entire studio had just focused on one game.”

The developer added, “So we were really proud of what we’d created, but we felt like that was kind of like the base-level. We felt like we could push it so much more. So that’s why you’re seeing so many new things go into Black Ops 2.”

Traditionally, the team takes a break after finishing a major title, but after the first Black Ops title they felt that they could extract much more from the fiction that they had created and quickly came up with the ideas that now form the core of Black Ops II.

Lamia believes that despite the rumors that preceded the official unveiling of his game, there are still many surprises for fans to discover when the first-person shooter is actually launched.

Black Ops II takes place in the near future and sees a mysterious hacker take control of the drone and the robotic forces of the United States in order to further his own plans.

Gamers will need to fight both robots and forces of the Chinese military in the single player and multiplayer modes.

Treyarch is also introducing an expanded take on the zombie mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be released on November 13 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
