One month ago, singer Pink stepped out for a charity gala with her husband Carey Hart. They posed for pictures on the red carpet, and because she hadn’t been out to a public event in a while, they spread like wild fire on social media. Then talk started of how “fat” she’d gotten.

Pink had the perfect response to her bullies: how much she weighed was no one else’s business but her own, and as far as she was concerned, she didn’t care about the numbers on the scale either, as long as she was happy and healthy.

As per her own words, Pink doesn’t take well to bullying.

Pink is tough as nails but she’s also human

The other night, Pink did her first carpet after the fat-shaming, at the BMI Pop Awards, where she was honored with the BMI President’s Award. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight before the event, she explained why she reacted so swiftly and on-point with the bullying.

She can’t stand it when she or the people around her are bullied, she said, as you can see in the video below. She hates it when people assume that, just because she’s a celebrity, she’s free game for their jokes or mean comments, or when they imagine that their opinions, whatever they might be, matter.

With all that, that doesn’t mean that their words don’t affect her.

“I am a girl, I have feelings and people think I take no [expletive] and I'm tough, tougher than nails, but I'm a human being,” she says. “I thought it was important for me to remind [the bullies] that I don't care. My life is full, I like food a lot and I really like to cook, I like to live, I find joy in that and were doing alright in the Hart household.”

In the end, that’s what should matter, that she’s happy and healthy.

Celebrities and online bullying

Pink isn’t the only and she’s definitely not the first or last celebrity to be bullied online because of her looks. Just recently, former Disney star Selena Gomez was also fat-shamed after photos of her on vacation emerged online; apparently, she was “fat” too.

Former “American Pie” hottie and current “Sharknado” star Tara Reid gets it all the time, but unlike these two, she’s bullied for being too thin.

The relative anonymity provided by the Internet in general, and social media in particular, and the fact that celebrities are perceived as commodities make it very easy for people to speak their mind online without thinking if their words hurt someone or not.

This is why many celebrities don’t even have an online identity (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram accounts, etc.), or if they do, they leave all the posting and monitoring to their people.

Then, there are celebrities like Pink, who simply take matters in their own hands and stand up to the bullies.
