“I feel beautiful, don’t worry about me.”

Singer Pink is fighting back at Twitter trolls trying to fat-shame her after a rare red carpet appearance. You can see a photo snapped on the occasion attached to this article; Pink’s amazing response is included in one of the tweets below.

Pink and husband Carey Hart stepped out for the John Wayne Odyssey Ball the other day, a cancer benefit. She wore a calf-length black dress with black pumps and a black tiara, and looked as beautiful as always - unless, of course, you ask those who thought she’d gotten too “fat.”

Pink gets fat-shamed, has the perfect response

Pink has posted some of the things people have been writing about her weight on Twitter, but we could sum them up like “you’re fat, lose some weight STAT!”

Other female celebrities in this situation would have chosen to ignore these mean comments or would have responded to them in a very aggressive manner. Pink is above all that: in a beautifully worded message, she makes it clear that her body is hers to dispose of, so whether she gained weight or not is no one’s business but her own.

She deserves credit for not losing her cool too, especially when pointing out to the haters that they could have talked about something more interesting than her figure, like the fact that Dr. Maggie DiNome was honored at the gala with the Duke Award for her work in fighting cancer.

“Unfortunately, my weight seems much more important to some of you,” she says. “While I admit that the dress didn’t photograph as well as it did in my kitchen, I will also admit that I felt very pretty. In fact, I feel beautiful. So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about [me]. I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either:)…I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off. Thanks for your concern. Love, cheesecake.”

A round of virtual applause for Pink

As you probably imagine, this civil but still on-point response from Pink was received with a very loud round of virtual applause: both her fans and celebrity bloggers praised her for keeping her cool yet standing up so effectively against the trolls.

The reality is that, even if Pink had been even remotely close to “fat,” fat-shaming is not ok, neither with celebrities nor with regular people. With all this, despite the fact that more and more public figures are standing up to haters and / or speaking up for those who are bullied in cyber-space, fat-shaming is still a common occurrence.
