“RoboCop” reboot gets new viral video ahead of February release

Sony Pictures offered a glimpse into the future at the CES 2014 held in Las Vegas, with another fake ad for OmniCorp, timestamped for 2027. The video is, in fact, a viral for the studio’s “RoboCop” reboot, which arrives in theaters next month.

You can see it in full and in HD above.

The speaker boasts about the hard work OmniCorp has put in to make the future a safer place, but stresses that “this wasn’t enough” until they had created a product that combined the morality of man with the indestructibility of a machine. You guessed it, it’s RoboCop.

Though the video might impress at first sight, it isn’t exactly original, as I’m sure you must have noticed, especially if you’re a movie buff. If anything, this is an almost exact replica of the viral for “Prometheus” that was released in February 2012.

That one saw one of the characters in the film, Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), giving a TED Talk in 2023, and he too was boasting about how Weyland Corp. was improving the future with their androids.

Still, if you’re hyped for the reboot thanks to this viral, keep an eye out for theater releases in February. “RoboCop” stars Joel Kinnaman, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jackie Earle Haley.
