14 DAY TRIAL // CTL hasn’t announced any new Classmate computers for quite a while now, but at this year’s CES fair the company returns to the education market with a pair of new child friendly devices based on Intel’s new Cedar Trail platform.
Specs wise, the two CTL systems are almost identical, but use different designs as the 2go Classmate PC NL3 is a convertible tablet, while the Classmate PC E12 takes on the more traditional laptop form-factor.
No matter which one of the two models you choose, you will get a 10.1-inch screen, with HD resolution and a resistive touchscreen in the NL3, a 1.6GHz Atom N2600 processor, and 1GB of RAM.
Users can pair these with an SSD or hard drive offering up to 320GB of storage space, while the webcam and the Wi-Fi 802.11 support come as standard.
Various connectors are placed all along the edges of the ruggedized chassis that can withstand drops from heights up to 70cm, including USB, VGA and HDMI out.
A card reader is also provided, while the NL3 convertible laptop can even be fitted with an internal 3G modem to add wireless broadband capabilities to the overall features list.
Placed right under the spill resistant keyboard, the battery is said to provide the CTL Classmate PCs with up to 10 hours of autonomy.
“We’re very excited about these new additions to our successful Classmate PC line,” said Erik Stromquist, COO of CTL.
We have taken a great product line and added additional ruggedness with improved hardware performance. Customers have many choices in the tablet space.
“The 2go line fills a niche in the education, mobile workforce, and vertical markets,” concluded the company’s rep.
Unlike most other Classmate PCs out there, the CTL computers can also be purchased by end-users, both of these being available for pre-order now, the 2go Classmate PC NL3 starting at $499 (389 EUR), while the E12 starts at $349 (272 EUR).
