Lenovo has just introduced the company’s second generation Classmate+ laptops destined to be used in the education environment that promise to bring a tougher design and up to 10 hours of battery life to the table.

First introduced early last year, the Classmate+ laptops has now received a new case that features tougher corner design, reinforced steel hinges and strengthened DC jacks, as well as a better keyboard with enhanced water resistance.

Available both as a convertible and as clamshell laptop, the Classmate+ has a 10.1-inch display which can be configured to feature a high-brightness or high-definition panel with optional capacitive touch screen support or anti-glare coating.

On the inside, the laptops are based on Intel’s new Cedar Trail platform so they get an Intel Atom N2600 processor which is paired with 2GB DDR3 memory and up to a 320GB hard drive or 32GB solid state drive.

A 6-cell battery is standard in both the convertible and the clamshell models, which according to Lenovo can deliver 10 hours of running time.

On the connectivity front, the laptops feature three USB ports, VGA and an optional HDMI port as well as a 2MP resolution camera.

"As the world's #1 PC maker in education, we're committed to enhancing learning via our platform of PC solutions designed for students," said Michael Schmedlen, director, worldwide education, Lenovo.

"By joining with Intel to create the new Lenovo Classmate+ Clamshell and Classmate+ Convertible laptops, we're demonstrating how mobile computing fits into any learning environment, no matter the location or budget."

The Lenovo Classmate+ laptop and Convertible laptop will be available starting in January, but they are limited to education and government customers only. Prices were not unveiled as these depend on regional taxes, tariffs and, of course, configuration options.
