Amazon.com, Inc announced on Friday the launch of a new Web site that offers cell phones and service plans, namely AmazonWireless (amazonwireless.com). According to the company, the new site offers an easy shopping solution, eliminating the hassle of rebates, while also offering free Two-Day Shipping for devices from AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

The Web site is in beta stage at the moment, and the company announced that more mobile phones as well as a wider range of carriers would be added in the near future. Moreover, it seems that various features will be tested for inclusion with the site, and the development team is also relying on customer feedback to make sure that in the end it will deliver the best user experience.

“We've taken our eight years’ experience selling cell phones to create a new site that makes a potentially confusing transaction much easier for customers,” said Paul Ryder, vice president of Consumer Electronics for Amazon.com. “The step-by-step purchase process on AmazonWireless makes it easy for customers who already have a plan to upgrade their phones. If you want to establish new cell phone service, we’ve made it simple to find the right phone, service plan and options for your needs. We’ve also eliminated the technical jargon and frustrating rebate paperwork that customers often face when buying a phone.”

The beta AmazonWireless has 120 mobile phones in its offering at the moment, among which users will be able to find a series on smartphones, as well as some of the latest handsets aimed at those on a budget. Devices can be purchased by carriers, features, price, color or brand. Moreover, the shopping cart will guide customers through all the stages of the purchase, providing similar features with those available on Amazon.

The new AmazonWireless site is owned and operated by Amazon.com. Users will be able to shop with their Amazon accounts, while also benefiting from the same services as on Amazon.com, the company added. All handsets available on the site are eligible for the free Two-Day Shipping.
