Not officially announced yet, but it's really only a matter of time

Earlier this month, we used the terms "Halo" and "DS" in the same sentence. That's right! For those who haven't kept themselves up to date, the DS is most likely to get a Halo port sooner or later. Now (more than ever) it finally looks like a real possibility, but under the form of a platfomer, rather than a FPS. The only question is, who's making it?

The news first arrived when IGN's Matt Casamassina stated in his Wii-k in Review podcast that we should hear details about Halo actually running on Nintendo's DS as soon as that week. As GameStooge.com posted then, Mr. Casamassina's comments were: "It's a real game? we're going to lay down some ownage next week or soon afterward by showing you guys that it is a real game."

More recently though, Bungie's Brian Gerard hints at various developers interested in the idea: "Every once in awhile it comes up. Somebody out there some developer pitches and tries to make it happen. It's very likely that somebody at some point in time created a prototype and tried to pitch it. But there has never been an officially funded or sanctioned development of any sort of DS Halo game," told Brian Gerard to Siliconera.

As for Bungie's Frank O'Connor...: "I believe we got pitched for it several times," he said as I found via Cubed3.com. "I mean if it wasn't a drain on resources. The problem is the DS is not an FPS console right? It's not an FPS handheld. There really is no such thing. If we did something cool I would like to see it. But I would rather see the Halo IP on any handheld system applied to a different genre because handhelds don't necessarily do FPS well. Maybe a side scrolling shoot-'em-up or whatever, but not necessarily an FPS."

So there you have it. Even though nothing of the sort has yet been made official, the possibility is there. And besides, who doesn't want a piece of Nintendo's million-unit selling handheld? It's only a matter of time really, given that Halo is a million-copy-selling title too.
