If you were somehow wondering what comes next after gaming branded computer peripherals, then Buffalo just answered your question, the company just releasing a new series of Harry Potter external hard drives coming preloaded with six Harry Potter movies for all you wizardry fans out there.

Coming thanks to a partnership with Warner Home Video, these storage solutions, dubbed the HD-LBU2/Hpx6 and HD-PCTU2/Hpx6, pack 1TB and 500GB of storage, respectively, and feature USB 2.0 connectivity.

Unfortunately a high speed interface such as USB 3.0 or eSATA isn't provided, so these drives aren't suited for those users that seek ultimate performance, but, then again, I don't expect to many Harry Potter fans to be interested in transfer speed rates and the like, so these pretty much fit their target audience.

All the movies come preloaded in the DivX format and are DRM protected, so these portable hard drives require an working Internet connection if you want to playback your rightfully acquired films on the PC.

Other DivX certified devices are also supported, such as the PlayStation 3, although this requires you to go through an even lengthier process in order to get the movies to play, prior registration being required.

Content protection aside, Buffalo also bundles these two drives with their own backup, file sync and data encryption tools if you ever need to use them as well as a program to manage your digital images.

Unfortunately, Buffalo has not released any infos regarding pricing until now so we don't know how much these are going to retail retail for, although I should expect them to carry a decent price premium considering the movie bundle.

Both the HD-LBU2/Hpx6 and the HD-PCTU2/Hpx6 are scheduled to be released this November as a way to celebrate the release of the final Harry Potter chapter. (via akihabaranews)
