As some of you will certainly remember, one of IOMEGA's main CES 2011 announcements was the one related to the development of a cloud-based storage solution, but it seems that it wasn't the only one to think of it, since one of its rivals, Buffalo, has also launched such a solutionk, called CloudStor.

Built around the Pogoplug technology, the CloudStor service allows users to easily access their data from pretty much wherever they might be around the world, the same applying to the backup process.

According to Buffalo, beside providing secure access to one's data, CloudStor offers many traditional NAS features, such as private share support for LAN based network sharing and pairing with µTorrent clients.

Moreover, the service looks and operates just like a physical storage unit found within one's computer, accessible via a drive letter on PCs and as a device through Finder on Mac computers.

Plus, given the fact that Pogoplug apps for mobile devices are also available, and the same goes for Facebook and Twitter integration, users will be able to easily access their content from just about any platform they see fit.

“The consumption of digital content is rapidly moving beyond traditional channels along with how that data is stored and accessed,” said Ralph Spagnola, vice president of sales at Buffalo Technology, adding that “Buffalo’s CloudStor delivers on the promise of data mobility and allows your content to be shared freely with anyone, anywhere.”

“Sharing and managing digital assets have moved beyond traditional storage and are no longer confined to one computer or network,” commented Daniel Putterman, CEO of Cloud Engines, Inc., who also said that “Buffalo’s CloudStor is the first Pogoplug device with integrated storage, and coupled with the easy-to-use interface, consumers now have an out-of-box ready Pogoplug storage solution that is free of service and data fees.”

CloudStoloudStor will be available February 2011 at an estimated street price of $169.99 for the 1 TB CloudStor (CS-WX1.0TL) and $269.99 for the 2 TB CloudStor Pro (CS-WV2.0TL).
