The external storage solutions market is growing at about the same rate as all other parts of the IT market, as shown by companies like Buffalo, whose product collection will soon expand.

Buffalo has, so far, unveiled more than just a few external and/or portable storage drives, in addition to other things, like wireless network devices.

Recent examples would be a certain pair of HDDs, as well as this particular USB 3.0-enabled MiniStation portable unit.

Now, the same company is again expanding its collection of external units, by three high-capacity members.

Two HD-LSU2 Series units are in the pipeline, with storage space of 1 TB and 2 TB, respectively ($135, $177), while the third is the even more capacious HD- LSVU2 of 3TB ($274).

Physically, the company gave the units a size of 39 x 123 x 189 mm and a weight of one kilogram.

They all sport the same casing that has become a sort of hallmark for Buffalo's HDD line, though the black of the glossy enclosure can be replaced by white if prospective buyers so desire.

Furthermore, for endurance, there are also internal rubber mounts, so as to counter vibrations, even if being left on a desk for an indeterminate period of time doesn't really leave much risk of shocks.

The one area where people might be a bit underwhelmed is that of data transfer rates.

Basically, Buffalo chose to stick with the USB 2.0 standard instead of throwing in the benefits of USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed).

This means that copying anything onto the drives will take quite a while, as will filling all the available space.

Then again, if one were to use the three as backup drives, they wouldn't have to pay attention to the background process much.

Fortunately, there is one asset that the trio can brag about, namely the 'super eco' function, which can reduce power consumption by up to 98% during idle times.
