Buffalo has once again made good on its status as purveyor of consumer storage solutions, having created a new pair of large-capacity, not at all lightweight HDDs, featuring the same glossy black frame as those that came before them.

Buffalo may not specialize overmuch in the development of very compact storage devices, like Seagate's models or ADATA's.

On the other hand, Buffalo does have a few solid names of strong, capacious, even network-connected external platter spinners.

It so happens that this same company has finished preparing a pair of this very type of extra external HDDs, though it decided to forgo network connectivity in this instance.

It also did not bother to try and make them small and light, settling for a weight of 1 kilogram and a size of 39 x 123 x 189 mm.

Part of the HD-LXU3 and HD-LXVU3 series, they have capacities of up to 3 TB (the former is in 1 TB and 2 TB, while the second attains 3 full TB).

Enclosed in glossy black casings, with LEDs that show activity, the capacities are complemented by such features as internal rubber mounts (reduce vibrations and, thus, enhance physical endurance) and the Turbo PC EX application, which optimizes transfer speeds.

Additionally, the Eco Manager software makes power consumption more efficient, by up to 70% in fact.

Finally, a built-in fan ensures heat never gets too hard to manage, and the shape of the newcomers, much like that of their predecessors, allows them to either stand upright or horizontally.

The 3 TB HD-LXVU3 carries the price of $316, while the 1 TB and 2 TB HD-LXU3 sell for $178 and $232, respectively. They are all bundled with backup software, so that the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connection may constantly put its data speeds to good use.
