For years, Britney Spears has been either the punch line or the punching bag, Out magazine says in its latest issue, which also comes with an e-mail interview with the pop star. With all that, she remains the constant in pop music, always a chart-topper, always a people-pleaser.

She’s an artist on whom fans can rely to always deliver strong dance music – yet, at the same time, she’s incredibly relatable, Out writes.

Britney is also supporting her gay fans whenever she has the chance, promoting equality in a way that does not annoy by being too in-your-face.

To paraphrase the Out article, regardless of other pop stars that may come (and go), fans’ heart will always belong to Britney.

In the eve of the release of her latest album, “Femme Fatale,” Spears agreed to do an interview via e-mail with the magazine, together with a black and white photospread that shows just in what good a shape she is (and a peek at her hidden tattoos).

In the interview, which is a lot of fun to read, precisely because Britney doesn’t even attempt to come across as something she’s not, she talks about kissing Madonna, making music and, of course, the new album.

“All of my songs are [expletive]-ing amazing,” Britney says when asked whether she has any regrets about recording one particular song in her long career.

Speaking of which, she says that, before she got started in pop music, she wanted to mold her career after Madonna’s. And, yes, kissing her was “cool,” Britney dishes.

As for the upcoming album, “I think Femme Fatale is my most upbeat and mature album yet.”

“I collaborated with Will.i.am. I am a huge fan of Black Eyed Peas, and I have always wanted to work with him. I also worked with a new up-and-coming artist from the L.A. area named Sabi. She raps on a song I love called ‘(Drop Dead) Beautiful’,” the pop princess explains.

Britney also describes her perfect Sunday as a day spent with the boys, grabbing a treat and a nap later, and perhaps squeezing in a workout as well.

She says her mom gave her the best advice, that of having a scoop of ice cream when she’s feeling low, which she still sticks to. Britney’s nightmare is to be on a diet.
