After offering fans a taste of what her upcoming album will sound like, with the single “Hold It Against Me,” Britney Spears is getting ready to return to an edgier sound with the new studio material, more similar to “Blackout.”

The pop star has just wrapped shooting for the video for “Hold It Against Me” and, while fans are waiting for more pictures from the shot, her collaborators are dishing out details on the upcoming album.

As it turns out, it will be different from “Circus” in that it will be closer in sound to the album she released before that, the 2007 best-selling “Blackout.”

“It’s way more edgy than the last album. [It’s] more in the vein of the album before,” songwriter Claude Kelly, who has penned several tracks on this new album, says for People magazine.

“Though Kelly admits he’s not completely sure what the ‘final product is going to be,’ he does say, ‘the last album [2008’s Circus] was more clean pop. [Its purpose] was to reintroduce Britney to the world as the pop princess’,” People further reports.

With the yet-to-be-titled new project, Spears will reestablish herself as the queen of the clubs as well, since the material will not only be burning up the charts, but also be blasted in every respectable club across the world.

“She’s always ready. Dr. Luke and Max Martin are running the show, and it’s all about the beats. It has a heavier bass line and it’s much harder, more urgent, more club. She’s ready again!” Kelly says.

Until the album drops in spring, fans can look forward to seeing Britney’s new video: as noted above, she just finished shooting for the video for “Hold It Against Me,” but a release date for it has not yet been set.

The other day, Britney tweeted a first photo of her in the video, which you can also see attached to this article: she’s wearing a sparkly red top and is surrounded by microphones.

A few hours ago, she tweeted, “I’m so excited to see the 1st cut of the #HIAM video next week. I asked for more pics to send to you guys. Hopefully [tomorrow].”
