Britney Spears’ cover of “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” is voted worst cover of all times

Britney Spears may sell millions of albums and billions of dollars worth of merchandise, but, when it comes to covers, she doesn’t quite have the best one out there, it has emerged.

Readers of music magazine NME were asked to vote for the best and worst music covers of all times and, when it came for the latter, they chose Britney’s version of “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

“The singer released Joan Jett’s track in 2002 but music fans were unimpressed with Spears’ rendition – NME readers have voted it their least favorite cover,” Toronto Sun notes, citing a WENN report.

“Ronan Keating’s Fairytale of New York by The Pogues came second in the shameful survey, while Celine Dion’s version of AC/DC’s You Shook Me All Night Long was named third,” the magazine further notes.

Not all is bad news, though, because the same music lovers also voted for their favorite cover.

“Muse’s rendition of Feeling Good by Nina Simone was branded the best cover of recent years in the poll,” the e-zine says.

Fans should fret over a little poll though: a new Britney Spears album is currently in the works, with rumors saying that it may actually drop very soon.

While details remain pretty scarce at the moment, word in the blogosphere has it should drop sometime later this year or, at the latest, at the beginning of 2011.

A writing camp has also been set up to come up with new tracks for Britney, and singer Neon Hitch seems to confirm that on Twitter.

“I hate flying, but the reward of writing for Britney in Texas makes it all worth it..!! C u in a few days LA! :)” Hitch tweeted the other day.

“Just arrived at the Britney writing camp And they have their own plane!! ..I’m NOT gettin in,” she wrote a while later, after arriving at the writing camp.

Until fresh material from Britney Spears is released, below is her cover of the iconic “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Listen and judge for yourself whether voters were wrong in saying it was that terrible.
