Boyfriend jeans and mannish tailoring are causing a frenzy in the fashion industry this spring

With spring in full bloom and designers offering countless choices in terms of women’s fashion, but most of them being extremely feminine, with a genuine bombardment of floral, flowing and girlie fabrics, it’s no wonder that boyfriend jeans have caught on so fast. Celebrities from Katie Holmes to the always stylish Eva Longoria have all tried it out, and got the best reaction from fashion observers, which is why more and more women are encouraged to do the same.

Aside from looking absolutely dashing – in the way baggy jeans looked on the Salt ’N Pepa girls a few years ago – the boyfriend jeans also have another thing working strongly in their favor: they’re extremely cheap. As a matter of fact, depending on the case, they can cost (close to) nothing, since a single peek in our man’s wardrobe can be more than enough to find the perfect pair. What’s even better, this recent trend is extremely versatile, which makes these jeans ideal for almost all sorts of occasions.

For instance, stylists say, baggy jeans go extremely well with early ‘90s inspired jackets. Put on a simple top, even a tank top, with a brightly colored jacket with rolled sleeves (a la “Miami Vice”) and a nice pair of flats, and you’re ready for a day out shopping. For the evening, we can change everything but the jeans, which we match with a pair of killer heels and a more stylish shirt, preferably with a tie or a scarf hanging carelessly around the neck.

Whichever of the above we choose, we should bear in mind that what makes boyfriend jeans so cool is knowing how to accessorize. Belts and shoes are extremely important in this sense, because they can truly turn an outfit into a smashing piece that will get all the girls talking, experts say. Also important is knowing that, in fashion, the rules can be bent in all directions, as long as we’re doing it in such a way as not to look as if we’re trying to hard.

Nevertheless, if you’re not looking to take any chances (wearing rolled-up boyfriend jeans with high heels requires attitude and a certain body type), the easiest way to rock this look is that of combining the jeans with a plain shirt (also from your man’s wardrobe) and a simple jacket (yours, if his doesn’t fit). Add a cool, mock men’s hat and an oversized bag and you’re ready to go break some hearts – but start with the man who made it all possible, yours.
