14 DAY TRIAL // What with her many accomplishments both as an actress and as a female role-model, when it comes to fashion, Katie Holmes has never quite managed to be considered more than just a simple follower of the trends that other, more glam stars, the likes of Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss, have set. However, it looks like the time has come for Mrs. Cruise to shine too - and her latest addiction to the baggy rolled-up jeans could be just the perfect way to do so.
While many would deem this emerging trend as downright ridiculous, especially given the fact that baggy jeans are, by definition, meant to be loose from waist to leg hem, Katie could actually succeed in being the one to change this perception. During her time spent in New York just recently, apart from husband Tom and daughter Suri, the actress has been spotted running errands, repeatedly donning the same pair of baggy jeans, which she rolled up just to better show off her perfectly matched shoes.
Again, despite the fact that this trend could actually fail to catch on ('80s reminiscences are perhaps too strong for many to embrace it), we have to admit that it's the perfect combination of comfort and urban chic. Add to that the fact that this look also combines now fashionable elements, like the high waist, the wide belt and that certain air of secretary/office appropriateness, and we could actually have a winner on our hands.
As a side note, even though Katie does look pretty awesome with her baggy rolled-up jeans, if this look goes mainstream, shorter girls should take notice and not embrace it without due consideration. Just like the rest of the pants that don't go all the way down to the sole of the shoe, this look too has the disadvantage of making one look shorter and bulkier than she really is. One solution for this would be matching them with high-heeled shoes - truly a shorter girl's best friends.
