Ever since the Boxee was first released, its developers have been hard at work bringing forth new firmware versions every other week, Boxee just announcing the latest patch for their media streamer is now available for download and brings some minor user interface improvements as well as the mandatory bug fixes.

Although this piece of news doesn't come as a huge surprise to hardly anyone, as Boxee announced their plans regarding this firmware update the last week, it is indeed nice to know the media streamer enjoys such support from the developers, firmware updates arriving an almost regular basis.

Moving back to this firmware update, the most interesting addition is the new screen that during the initial setup procedure will ask the users how they plan to use the box, for local file playback or Internet streaming, the selection setting the default behavior for clicking on the Movies, Shows and Apps buttons.

This change is meant to cater to those complaining about Boxee putting too much emphasis on its media streaming capabilities, knocking local content playback down to a second place.

Apart from this addition in content selection, the new firmware also changes the way users can browse through large file collections, a new “Sort” button being added to the generic browse screen as well as an option to navigate quickly by A-Z.

Furthermore, an option that programs the Boxee to do a timed scan of connected sources (like USB devices) has been added along with some adjustments to the interface to improve visibility when users wear 3-D glasses.

As with all the other firmware updates that came before it, an impressive list of bug fixes is also part of this new update.

According to the company, the firmware is already available for download, the Boxee automatically checking every 24 hours for new updates.

However, if you feel that you can't wait that long, the update procedure can also be started manually by going to Settings> System> Update and clicking the Check for New Version of Boxee button.

Finally, Boxee promises another firmware update is due to arrive before year's end, with major improvements to the browsers, new content and apps as well as more bug fixes.
