Not that much time has passes since Boxee made official their first firmware patch for the Boxee Box media streamer and now, just as promised, the company is announcing their next firmware will include some UI changes that are intended to make it easier to navigate through all the content available on the Boxee.

Intended to make the UI run smoother, this update will bring various interface changes, Boxee just announcing in their forums where should we expect to see these enhancements come.

For starters, the Boxee Box will add a screen in the initial login procedure that will ask the users how he (or she) plans to use the box, for local file playback or Internet streaming, the selection setting the default behavior for clicking on the Movies, Shows and Apps buttons.

This change is meant to add to the complaints of some users that though Boxee puts to much emphasis on its media streaming capabilities, knocking local content playback down to a second place.

The behavior of the Boxee Box can be latter changed by going to the Settings>General>Menu screen.

Furthermore, changes were also brought to the way of browsing through large file collections, a new “Sort” button being added to the generic browse screen as well as an option to navigate quickly by A-Z.

In addition, local file filtering has been improved as you can select content by Genre or you can mark it as Watched or Unwatched (this option was brought back by popular demand), a hourly scan option being also added for those users who wanted more frequent scanning of their libraries.

Although this was just announced, Boxee will release a testing version real soon to its Early Access users, the company planning to make it available to the rest of its users some time next week, the firmware also coming with “numerous bug fixes.” (via CrunchGear)
