When the Fallout series was brought back to life so wonderfully by Bethesda many hoped that this would be, like any other game, an inspiration for other companies to come out with their own great games. After all, nothing brews progress like a little competition. Except maybe for criticism, or even better, some good old-fashioned war. But war can still be viewed as an elaborate form of competition, so the first statement still stands.

Borderlands is a game that's not necessarily inspired by Fallout 3, since the post-apocalyptic vision had been around long before that, but since it's the biggest and most recent game that makes use of this concept it's hard not to compare the two. They're both RPGs, they both take place in a wasteland universe, and now, they'll both have zombies. Borderland may have gone gold just recently and even though the launch date hasn't arrived yet, Gearbox Software has already announced its first DLC.

"The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" has been announced today as downloadable content for the upcoming game. The whole zombie thing may be a little overplayed and may sound like a cliche to some, but the classics never die. Apparently, Dr. Ned isn't the mad-occult scientist that some may believe him to be, given the title of the DLC. Dr. Ned was a good man, or maybe since the DLC isn't out yet, he will be a good man, a normal doctor that took care of the sick and wounded of Jakobs Cove.

But it seems fate has played a cruel joke on our doctor and the people of Jakobs Cove, and while the population of the little settlement has been turned into the brain-eating horde the good doctor is left to live with a heavy conscience. Your task, should you choose to purchase the DLC, will be to help Ned fight the zombies, give him the time to find a cure and save Jakobs Cove. The DLC will be available later this year for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft points, and will come out for all the game's versions, the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ones.
