Publisher UTV Ignition Entertainment has announced that its Tokyo based development studio has completed the creation process for its upcoming action adventure title El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.

The game is prepared for an April 28 launch date in Japan and will be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The publisher has not yet announced dates for the North American and the European markets, but an announcement will soon come with more hard data.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a potentially special title because it is based on the Book of Enoch, one of the documents that are part of the Dead Sea scrolls, a cache of documents that offer an alternative take on the history of early Christianity and on the person of Jesus himself.

The mix between Western mythology and religion and Japanese video game sensibilities is another unique selling point for El Shaddai and the development team includes developers that have put in work for games like Devil May Cry, Okami and Resident Evil.

Sawaki Takeyasu, who is the game director for El Shaddai, stated when the completion announcement was made, “The creation of El Shaddai has truly been a long and exciting journey, and yet there is still much to be done to prepare for the game's launch. So far, the public's response to the game has been very encouraging, and I hope that the final product will greatly exceed their expectations. I also look forward to having time to consider the future direction of the El Shaddai franchise.”

The publisher UTV Ignition Entertainment also says that it will be launching a promotional campaign for El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, with the first stage already taking place in Japan, with limited edition goods based on the game sold out quickly after they are presented.
