The first part of the tell-all interview Oprah Winfrey conducted on Whitney Houston aired the other day and, as promised, it came as a true shock to all the fans of the singer, who thus got to see the kind of struggle she had to put up for her life in recent years. Among many things and details of her severe drug addiction, the diva also revealed Bobby Brown was her most dangerous “drug” and, at the same time, a very emotionally abusive man who, at one time, spat on her in front of their daughter.

With the utmost frankness, Whitney bared her soul to Oprah, saying that, while never physically aggressive, Bobby was extremely abusive from an emotional standpoint because of the kind of control he had over her. However, at one point, things escalated in such a manner that, a bit under the influence, Brown spat in her face in front of their daughter, which made Whitney terribly angry. It was also then that she began to realize things were not OK.

“He [Brown] was my drug. I didn’t do anything without him. At home, he was very much the father, he was very much the man. He was very much in control. I liked that. When he said something, I listened. I was very interested in having someone have that kind of control over me. It was refreshing.” Whitney said of the first years of their troubled marriage, when they hadn’t yet started doing drugs.

Speaking of which, the singer revealed in the interview that things got pretty bad after her smash hit “The Bodyguard,” which came out in 1992, and that helped her achieve never-before-seen heights of fame. The more famous she became, the more drugs she did and, of course, the worse things were at home, the singer revealed, despite her repeated efforts to play everything down. “Something happens to a man when a woman has that much fame... I tried to play down all the time. I used to say ‘I’m Mrs. Brown, don’t call me Houston.’” Whitney revealed.

To little avail, though, because the situation continued to deteriorate until her mother had to step in and stage an intervention, aided by police officers, the singer further said. The second part of the Oprah interview airs today, September 15. For a few highlights of Part 1, see the video below.
