Queen of all media impressed with singer’s honesty

Before Whitney Houston’s somewhat lackluster live performance for Good Morning America, the diva pre-taped an interview with Oprah Winfrey, which will air on September 14. In fact, the diva said at the time her voice was creaky precisely for this reason, but, from what Oprah is telling the New York Daily News, it was well worth it, since that was the best interview she’d ever done.

Of course, Oprah doesn’t go into specifics about what Whitney said once she sat down on her couch – years of experience in television have taught her better than that. She does, though, say that the singer opened up about every aspect in her life that’s ever been subject to speculation in the media, from her marriage to her drug use and her sometimes weird behavior. Oprah also says she has never done a better interview in her entire career, and that should be more than enough to keep viewers glued to their television screens when the episode airs.

“My approach to this interview was to not be judgmental in any way, and not to go in trying to get her to say things to make a ‘moment.’ I just wanted to be able to have an honest conversation with her. One woman to another woman. And the day of the interview I literally prayed about that all day long. I just wanted a connection between the two of us. And that is what happened. And that is why I believe it’s one of the most, if not the most, powerful interviews I’ve ever done.” Oprah says.

As the NY Daily News also points out, this kind of compliment coming from Oprah, the woman who grilled and got to talk with the most influential public figures of our time, is no trifle. What’s more, the talk-show host is certain that the interview, once it airs, will offer fans a better insight into who Whitney is as a person. Thus, they will learn to love her for something more than just her impressive voice and talent as an artist, Oprah believes.

“I can’t think of a moment, ever, when I had a stronger connection to the person I was interviewing. I think whether you liked or loved Whitney Houston before you will certainly have a deeper appreciation for what she has been through as a human being. And I mean, the fans are just going to love her even more.” Oprah says.
