The other day, word got out that Whitney Houston’s daughter with Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina, also known as Krissi, and her “adopted brother” Nick Gordon had gotten married in secret. The newlyweds have confirmed the news for the paparazzi, saying they had the family’s blessing for the ceremony.

TMZ has video of the two talking to the paparazzi about the surprise wedding, but they’re very ungenerous with the details. They do say, however, that the ceremony will take place next year and will be “beautiful.”

They also insist that they had the family’s blessing for the union and even that this is what Krissi’s mother, the late Whitney, would have wanted. “This is exactly what she wanted. Us together,” Krissi says, smiling for the camera.

Whitney took in Nick when he was just a child and, though she never filed the adoption papers, raised him as her own son. Until Krissi and Nick started dating, they were considered siblings, both by the outside world and the family.

Whitney’s mother and Krissi’s grandmother Cissy Houston even said at one point that she did not approve of the relationship because she thought it was “wrong.” In older interviews, she also hinted that she believed Nick was exploiting her granddaughter by romancing her when she was still grieving for her mother, for his own financial gain.

It seems that she’s had a change of heart. “We saw her at our cousin's sweet 16 and she gave us her blessing. She's very happy,” Nick tells the paparazzi.

Last year, sick of all the rumors, Krissi took to social media to shut down reports that she was doing something extremely awful by dating Nick, pointing out that they weren’t really related.

“YES, we me nick are engaged. I'm tired of hearing people say ‘eww your engaged to your brother or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.’ Let me clear up something, we aren't even real brother and sister nor is he my adoptive brother. My mom never adopted him. In fact, mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating,” she wrote at the time.

It turns out that Whitney was right.
