Harmonix and MTV Games have announced the songs that will be launched as downloadable content this week for their Rock Band series of music simulation game. The two companies are not offering gamers the chance to enjoy one new band but are putting out a package of single from a variety of interesting artists, some of them coming for the first time to the franchise. All the following songs are coming to the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii beginning today, August 3.

Blondie, who were already featured in the game, will be adding their track “Rapture” best known for the fact that it is the first mainstream hit that includes rap music and managed to reach the number one position on the Billboard Chart. Alternative rockers dc Talk are appearing in Rock Band for the first time with “Jesus Freak”, taken off the album of the same name that picked up a Grammy award. Indie rock band The Decemberists are making their debut with the song “The Perfect Crime #2”, taken from the album “The Crane Wide”, launched in 2006.

Eels will offer players “Saturday Morning”, a song from the “Shootenanny!” album from 2004 while La Roux, a duo specializing in electro pop, bring their single “Bulletproof” to the mix, from the debut album that they launched in 2009. Eagles of Death Metal are another debutant band that is featured with “I Only Want You,” from their 2004 album called “Peace, Love, Death Metal”. Family Force 5 are contributing “Love Addict” while KMFDM offer “Sturm & Drang”.

The new songs cannot be picked up as an unified pack. Those playing on the Xbox 360 will need to pay 160 Microsoft Points per pack, the equivalent of 200 Wii Points for those playing on the Nintendo home console and 1.99 dollars for each song on the PlayStation 3 from Sony.
