Video game developer Blizzard has announced that the height of activity during the open beta event for Diablo III has seen more than 300,000 players log into the game at the same time, creating a number of problems with the chat feature and with the creation and joining of new games.

The development team also says that it does not yet know exactly how many players played the beta of the game but has acknowledged that they all managed to offer important information about the game that will be used to enhance the experience before the May 15 launch date.

The problems that players reported during the Diablo III open beta stage will be solved before the game is officially out, according to the community manager at Blizzard.

He also said that all characters created during the beta would be wiped and that all achievements that had been earned would also disappear as Blizzard was only testing out the system during the weekend.

The interest for the beta stage is a good sign for Diablo III, which has been in development for a long time and has been criticized by long-term fans for some of its features.

Blizzard wants to make the game experience more streamlined, limiting the choices that the player has when it comes to both character development and to the way he approaches battles.

Major changes to the game mechanics were introduced during the closed beta stage at the beginning of 2012.

Variety will come from the five-character classes that Diablo III offers, of which only the Barbarian plays as those who experienced the previous two titles in the series would expect.

Diablo III will be out on the PC on May 15 and job announcements from Blizzard suggest that the company is also working on ports of the game for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
