The first US carrier that gets the smartphone

While all the major US carriers are still fighting to bring the best Android devices to its customers, Cincinnati Bell has just announced that it starts offering the long waited Blackberry Pearl 3G 9100. One of the few Blackberry smartphones to feature HSDPA network compatibility, Pearl 3G has finally arrived on the US market, even though it was a small, local operator that picked it up for distribution.

For those that are not familiar with Blackberry Pearl 3G 9100 features, here are some of its highlights: 2.44-inch TFT screen with 262K colors (480x360 pixels resolution), half-QWERTY keyboard, SureType keyboard technology, touch-sensitive optical trackpad, dedicated music keys, GPRS and EDGE Class 10, HSDPA 3.6 Mbps and HSUPA.

Blackberry Pearl 3G 9100 is powered by 624 MHz processor and runsBlackBerry 5.0 operating system. It comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera (2048x1536 pixels) with LED flash and autofocus, 256 MB internal memory, microSD memory slot (up to 32GB, 2GB included), Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS support (BlackBerry maps), 3.5 mm audio jack.

The candybar measures 108 x 50 x 13.3 mm and weighs exactly 93.6g (including battery). The device supports all specific Blackberry services such as, BlackBerry push technology, BlackBerry Internet Service, Microsoft Outlook Web Access v5.5, 2000 and 2003, Microsoft Exchange v5.5, 2000 & 2003, IBM Lotus Domino v5.0, v6.0, v6.5 via the BlackBerry Mail connector.

You won't get any extra goodies in the sales package except the usual (Blackberry Pearl 3G handset, Lithium Ion Battery, Power Supply, User Guide, SIM Card, USB cable for charging and PC synchronization), but at least you will get 1-year manufacturer warranty.

If you're a customer of the small Cincinnati Bell carrier, you'll have the chance to get the smartphone before any other carrier in the US. Blackberry Pearl 3G 9100 is available from Cincinnati Bell starting this week for $99.99 with a 2-year contract after a $100 rebate, or $349.99 outright.
