The UK-based music download website 7Digital is reportedly planning the launch of a new service that will allow users to get songs and albums directly onto their mobile phones. The new service, planned for a September launch, will be similar to Apple's iTunes and Nokia's Comes With Music, and will work on BlackBerry devices, being the first solution that RIM's users will be able to benefit from.

There are already some apps that enable BlackBerry owners to enjoy music, yet this would be the first service to make it possible for them to download songs directly on the devices. According to the news, the service will come as a new move from Research in Motion, the Canadian maker of BlackBerry, to attract more customers to its devices through offerings similar to those available from companies like Nokia or Apple.

Those who own a BlackBerry and would like to benefit from what the new service has to offer them will need to download an app from RIM's App World, after which they will have access to the tracks available for them through the new service. It seems that the service will come to users in the UK, USA, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, and that there will be around six million songs available for download and purchase.

Jim Balsillie, the co-chief executive and co-founder of Research In Motion, commented that, “The thing that gets me excited is the services. It's like you have this fancy phone, fancy network, what are you going to do with it? It's like you've bought this car and you're driving around in first gear. I'm trying to get you to try this in second or fourth.”

The price of the tracks has been reportedly set at around 79 pence. At the same time, most of the songs available on the portal come without copy protection software, which means that users will be able to share the music between different devices. It won't be too long before you can enjoy the new service, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
