Australian mobile phone users interested in the purchase of a new device from wireless carrier Vodafone should soon be able to choose a new BlackBerry smartphone from the wireless carrier, namely the BlackBerry Torch 9800.

The mobile phone carrier has just announced via its blog that the handset is set to make an appearance on its airwaves in the near future, but did not offer specific details on the phone's pricing.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 is coming soon with pricing and availability announced closer to the launch date,” a post on the said blog reads.

The new mobile phone is the first BlackBerry device to pack both a touchscreen display and a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and also the first of them to come with the new BlackBerry 6 OS from the company.

“A touch of beauty with features and capabilities that makes the BlackBerry Torch 9800 a mobile phone made to handle your business, whether its work or play,” the said blog post reads.

The specifications list of the new device includes a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 360 pixels resolution, complemented by a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with video recording capabilities.

Moreover, the new smartphone offer support for up to 32GB of additional storage space via microSD memory card slot, in addition to the available internal memory.

Wi-Fi and Stereo Bluetooth connectivity options have been included into the mix too, as well as support for 3G networks, or 3.5mm stereo handset jack.

The new BlackBerry 6 operating system sports a wide range of enhancements over the previous version of the platform, including universal search, or a new web browser.

Fast access to social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter was also included on this handset, as well as appealing multimedia features.
