For European handsets only

BlackBerry Storm users who live in the UK and are subscribers with the wireless carrier Vodafone have now a reason to rejoice, as the company has just released a new software update for their devices, namely the OS version 4.7.0.141. All of the BlackBerry Storm 9500-series devices can be updated to the new software version, as this is an official release and not a leaked one.

The new update comes as great news for some, since there have been a lot of leaked OSes in the wild lately, though only a few official ones spotted. Unfortunately, the BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.141 that Vodafone released only applies to European models, which means that Verizon users who are still waiting for a new firmware for their devices will not be able to enjoy it after all.

Those who would like to apply the new firmware update can find it on the BlackBerry.com site, where it is specified that it goes for Vodafone customers only. According to the installation instructions, there is desktop and handheld software, and users need to download both on their hard drive.

Given the fact that this release is official, there are not too many things that one should fear when performing the update, except for losing some of the files on the device, which means that they should back up all the data on their BlackBerry Storm before starting the process, just to make sure they'll have it all back when the update is over.

There are no specific details on what improvements have been included in the new OS 4.7.0.141 for BlackBerry Storm, but we hope for some info to surface in the near future. Until it does, you might want to try to update your handset, in case you are one of the fortunate Vodafone users, and you can find the new software here.
