The same day we informed you about the existence of a pink BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, Research in Motion and Telefonica announced the upcoming availability of the respective smartphone in Spain.

Obviously, the Pearl Flip 8220 will be sold through Telefonica's Movistar – the largest Spanish mobile carrier. Unfortunately, RIM doesn't say when exactly the device will be available, only pointing out that it should happen "this fall." There are no details on the price of BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 either, so Spanish users who have been waiting to find out how much they would need to pay for the handset will have to wait a bit longer.

Coming as the first smartphone built by Research in Motion in a clamshell form factor, BlackBerry 8220 borrows most of its features from the other Pearl devices, at the same time adding new ones. The full list of specs for the 8220 unveils the following: quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, Wi-Fi, a SureType QWERTY keypad, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Music and Video players with support for most of the popular formats, a 3.5mm headset jack, HTML browser, email, document viewer, a 240 x 320 pixel internal display, a smaller external screen, USB 2.0, BlackBerry Media Sync, Speaker Independent Voice Recognition for Voice Activated Dialing and expandable memory. The handset also brings a 2 Megapixel camera that doesn't have auto focus but packs a LED flash, which might come in handy when lighting conditions are not too good.

All in all, BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 is a nice addition not only to Movistar's future line-up of smartphones, but also to RIM's list of devices scheduled to be released this year. Together with the high-end BlackBerry Bold, already available in Spain (via Vodafone, one of Movistar's main competitors), the Pearl Flip 8220 is bound to make Spanish mobile users fall in love with RIM's products – which is not that hard to accomplish, considering the huge popularity the BlackBerries have in North America.
