Today, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion announced the launch of its BlackBerry Pearl 3G, the smallest BlackBerry smartphone yet, on the market in South Korea, on the airwaves of wireless carrier SK Telecom.

The new device comes to the market with appealing features, as well as with impressive performance levels, while offering support for the popular BlackBerry email, messaging and instant messaging capabilities all RIM devices come with.

The handset lands on the market in South Korea in black, pink and white, and has been already made available for pre-order in the country over at SK Telecom. It should land on shelves in October.

It seems that the first 1,000 customers who will step up and pre-order the BlackBerry Pearl 3G from the South Korean carrier should receive BlackBerry Premium Skin or BlackBerry Skin.

“We are pleased to introduce the BlackBerry Pearl 3G. We expect this small, stylish and powerful handset will open up the market for small-sized smartphones in South Korea,” said Soon Hyeong Kim, Vice President, Solution Business Office at SK Telecom.

“The new BlackBerry Pearl 3G provides a rich set of communications features and is an ideal choice for customers who want an easy-to-carry smartphone to stay in close touch with friends, family and co-workers.”

The specifications list of this device includes high-speed 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) and Wi-Fi (b/g/n) connectivity options, as well as built-in GPS receiver, and more.

The device sports a 20-key condensed QWERTY keyboard that comes with support for the standard Korean input method.

“The Korean input method on the new 20-key keyboard requires less key presses for text input than a traditional phone keyboard, making typing faster and simpler,” the company announced.

Other specs of this device include an optical trackpad for smooth navigation, as well as a camera with flash, dedicated volume and media keys, and a memory card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage space to be added into the equation.

“We are delighted to launch the BlackBerry Pearl 3G in South Korea with SK Telecom,” said Norm Lo, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Research In Motion.

“With a broad range of powerful communications and multimedia features in such a compact design, the BlackBerry Pearl 3G is a very compelling choice for South Korean customers.”

The new BlackBerry Pearl 3G comes with support for the BlackBerry App World, offering access to various applications available for download for its users.
