It seems that BlackBerry “Niagara,” highly expected to reach two mobile phone carriers this year, namely Sprint and Verizon, is heading our way quite fast, although not in the manner we would have expected it to. While Sprint will only unveil the device sometime in the second half of the year, Verizon will have it earlier.

Yet this is not all. According tot the news, the Niagara coming to Verizon is not 8930 or 9030, the model numbers we were expecting to see; it is actually reported to be the BlackBerry 9630. At the same time, it will be a Verizon World Edition device, meaning that it will include CDMA 1x, EV-DO Rev. A, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS connectivity, although word is that the UMTS band will only be 2100MHz.

Despite the wide range of network connectivity options, it seems that the Verizon World Edition will not feature Wi-Fi capabilities, yet this will not come as a surprise for those who know the carrier a little bit.

Among the other features that the handset will include we can count the 4.7.1 OS, although it is highly possible that the mobile phone will sport OS 5.0, all depending on the launch date, it seems. The device also comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, as well as a web browser that features support for JavaScript 1.6, and a physical QWERTY keyboard.

For the time being, there are no details on the frequencies the handset will support, 2100MHz being the one that will certainly surface. At the same time, there were some rumors about a version of the device that would not feature a photo snapper, but nothing has been confirmed. No exact information on the availability and price of the Verizon World Edition phone is available now, but the handset is expected to reach the carrier's offering sometime in May or June.
