It seems that Sprint subscribers will have to wait a little before being able to enjoy the BlackBerry Niagara mobile phone that was rumored at a certain moment to come to the carrier sometime this quarter. The latest news on the Web report that a Sprint engineer has confirmed the fact that the handset is heading towards the carrier in the second half of the year.

Word is that the Sprint BlackBerry Niagara will come to the carrier's users sometime in the third quarter of the ongoing year. In addition, the device is also reported to feature EVDOrA, GSM 850, 900,1800,1900 and UMTS 2100 connectivity, International Data with support for GPRS, EDGE, UMTS & HSPA, as well as a 3-megapixel camera and a 1400 mAh battery.

At the same time, it seems that the Sprint engineer also stated that the handset would come to Verizon Wireless sooner. The reason would be that Verizon is paying for the Broadcom patent infringement so that it could use the device's chip in the existing form, while Sprint is doing engineering work on the chip so that it won't have to pay the same fee to Broadcom.

Moreover, the upcoming Sprint BlackBerry Niagara is said to resemble the Javelin ID and styling. The handset is expected to come with a battery cover that will sport a gray/black dot matrix print scheme as well as a chrome accent. Interestingly, the JavelinNiagara could turn into just a CDMA version of the 8900.

In related news, we learn that Sprint might not come up with a BlackBerry Bold or Storm after all. It seems that a customer service representative has recently stated that the company does not have any plans to add the two devices on its network. For what it's worth, it would be rather strange to see Sprint not go after Bold or Storm, especially given the fact that Niagara is expected to come to its lineup so late this year.
