A device that might never arrive on shelves

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has been rumored a few times during the last year to be working on a new handset that sports the name of BlackBerry Magnum, and now some photos with it made it into the wild. The handset seems to be a pretty appealing BlackBerry smartphone, yet there are little chances that it will actually make it to the market, as it was already reported to have been scrapped by its maker.

The images with Magnum emerged via the Cellular Guru, which says that the BlackBerry Magnum would also sport the codename of Dakota. However, BlackBerry Cool says that Dakota is another handset and that it has better chances to arrive on the market at a certain time in the future. For the time being, nothing it certain, it seems, as the said Dakota is only in its early stages of development, and it might take quite a while before it is unveiled and launched on the market.

Even so, some details on the BlackBerry Dakota are still available, including the fact that it will sport a Bold 9000 form factor at launch. But the functionality and features of the upcoming phone will be greatly enhanced, that's for sure, and only the form factor might end up as the connection between Dakota and the older model. According to BlackBerry Cool, one should expect for this handset to arrive with a touchscreen display, and to sport a liquid lens camera. It is also known that the phone will be a QWERTY hybrid, but these are the only details available on it for the time being.

As many of you might know by now, RIM has made a nice range of changes in its latest models, packing them with increased multimedia functionality, new connectivity features, and better navigation controls. Based on that, we can only expect for the BlackBerry Dakota to arrive with enhanced features when compared to the existing models, but only the future will show what exactly RIM plans on including inside them.
