Mobile phone carrier O2 UK has just made available for purchase on its airwaves a new smartphone from Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion, namely the BlackBerry Curve 9380.

This is the very first Curve device that the smartphone designer has pushed on shelves with a touchscreen display, and features a design somehow similar with the one available with the company’s Torch 9850/9860 series.

However, the new Curve 9380 is both smaller than the Torch devices, and cheaper, the same as any other Curve device is.

At O2 UK, for example, the handset was made available for free on the wireless carrier’s Pay Monthly plans. Depending on the specific contract users choose, the phone’s cost can go up to as much as £79.99.

Based on RIM’s Blackberry 7.0 OS, the new device can deliver a great deal of appealing capabilities, while offering to its users brand new features for the Curve series.

“Sleek and slim, the BlackBerry Curve 9380 fits comfortably in your hand and has a crystal clear all touch display. It's beautifully compact but has all the power you'd expect from a high end smartphone,” O2 explains.

The new BlackBerry Curve 9380 is launched with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display on the front, complemented by a fast application processor inside, and HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity capabilities.

RIM also packed the device with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for video recording, as well as with NFC (Near Field Communication) features, and more.

Not to mention that it includes various features powered by the BlackBerry 7 OS, including BlackBerry Messenger and BBM integrated applications, real time social messaging, and a faster browser.

“The new BlackBerry Browser offers incredibly fast page load times, better web-based gaming, HTML video support and seamless scrolling and zooming,” O2 notes.

“With the Wikitude Augmented Reality browser on BBM, see your surroundings in a new way. See immediate and relevant information on over 150 million points of interest in 175+ countries, e.g. restaurants, cinemas & sightseeing.”
