Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is expected to bring to the market a nice range of new handsets during the ongoing year, and one of them might be a BlackBerry Bold smartphone with a touchscreen display on board.

Supposedly dubbed BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900, the new device was spotted a few times before into the wild and was rumored to be on its way to the BlackBerry World conference next week.

Nothing was officially confirmed on this handset, but it already received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, which suggests that it should not be too long before it is formally introduced.

According to the phone's Wi-Fi certification, it should arrive on shelves with 5.0GHz 802.11n band on board, which was listed on the leaked specs sheet we've seen a few weeks ago.

The smartphone would become the very first BlackBerry Bold handset to come to the market with both a QWERTY keyboard and with a touchscreen display on board.

According to previously leaked info on this device, it should pack a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen display when made available for purchase.

Moreover, the yet-unannounced BlackBerry smartphone should include a single-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon application processor inside, complemented by an increased amount of internal memory.

Other specs of BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 would include a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash and 720p video capture, along with 14.4Mbps HSPA+ connectivity capabilities.

The new smartphone is expected to run under the BlackBerry OS 6.1 when released, and it remains to be seen what features the new platform release would bring into the mix.

As stated above, the new handset was said to be on its way to the BlackBerry World in early may, accompanied by some other BlackBerry devices from RIM, but no confirmation on this emerged.

Rumor has it that RIM would plan on putting the smartphone on shelves sometime in summer.
