Touchscreen instead of QWERTY? No way...

One of the most anticipated BlackBerry smartphones, the 9000 model, stirred the Internet waters with some impressive specifications. It's no wonder that it happened so, as the iPhone has set the trend of highly evolved devices hitting the market.

The information came attached to a confusing and unbelievable image, as it shows a fully touchscreen enabled smartphone. Could RIM be on a major change of track and going the touchscreen mainstream way? That would be a shame, as old fashioned QWERTY keypad, as much space as it might take, still has many fans out there. There are some people that just find it difficult to get used to using a virtual keypad instead of pressing real buttons. They made the BlackBerry fans that still choose this type of handsets over Apple's iPhone even after its release.

The QWERTY keypad became, over the years, a feature that screams BlackBerry, which makes it a real shame to see that it will be replaced by a questionable enhancement. BlackBerry 9000 will run on an impressive 600 MHz processor and will be a 3.5G enabled handset. HSDPA connectivity is supposed to provide best data transfer speeds and make personal file management easy.

The new handset is said to also come with Wi-Fi connectivity and also boast a Backup/Restore function. This should make it possible to help transferring the entire backup to an on board memory card.

All information related to BlackBerry 9000 is only speculation at this time, with no official word from the producer. Speculations go on, with a release date set for early 2008. There are low chances of this happening this soon and even fewer ones that RIM will give up its QWERTY keypad for a touchscreen that has long stopped being something special, as a great number of evolved mobile phones now include it.
