Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is hard at work with the development of its latest mobile operating system flavor, BlackBerry 6, and has recently started to provide us with details on what the new platform version is all about. The last details unveiled on the matter are targeted at developers, as RIM wants to inform the developer community that the new OS flavor is set to open new opportunities for them. At the same time, it should bring forth some new app building solutions, especially for Java developers, it seems.

“One thing we want to do is differentiate the way BlackBerry 6 will affect Java development versus Web development. Over the coming weeks, we will share tips, tricks and more information about developing for BlackBerry 6 through two separate paths. For our Java developers, we’ll work to highlight the new APIs being introduced, including a new powerful set of new User Interface controls, Universal Search integration, and a Barcode Capture API,” a recent post on the BlackBerry Developer's blog notes.

In addition to these modifications, there would be a series of changes affecting web app development, mainly aimed at the new Webkit BlackBerry Browser and at redefined BlackBerry Widgets. “For our web developers, we’ll start to redefine BlackBerry Widgets and talk about the completely revamped BlackBerry Browser powered by a Webkit engine. We will cover HTML5, CSS3, and concrete steps for how you can bring your mobile site to BlackBerry smartphones,” the said blog post continues.

RIM also committed to continue offering developers info on how to create impressive applications for the BlackBerry OS, including the already popular Super Apps. All in all, the BlackBerry 6 should enhance the experience that developers get from the platform, in addition to being able to offer an improved experience to end-users, something that was detailed quite a lot over the past few weeks.
