Capcom has announced that it plans to continue the Bionic Commando series with the launch of Rearmed 2, a 2D videogame set to arrive in the first quarter of 2011 on both the PlayStation Network from Sony and on the Xbox Live from Microsoft as a downloadable title. It will again star Nathan Spencer as a grappling hook wielding soldier battling a variety of threats.

The plot will revolve around the struggle with General Sabio, a new villain that uses technology sophisticated weaponry and henchmen. He plans to launch a missile attack against civilian population and Nathan Spencer is the only who can get to him in time to stop him. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 will revolve around the traditional concept of progressing from screen to screen in a 2D setting while taking out enemies and end bosses.

The studio is also saying that, for the first time in the series, Spencer will be able to use a jump move in addition to his grappling moves and the bionic arm will be getting an overhaul, allowing for the movement to be more dynamic. There are also new weapons and attacks that can be used and fresh puzzles based around physics concepts.

Capcom has also confirmed that Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 will have two-player cooperative play and that the soundtrack is inspired by the ones seen in the Nintendo Entertainment System era. The cut scenes will be handled by Massive Black, an outfit that has also worked on God of War 3, BioShock 2 and Infamous.

It will be interesting to see whether Capcom is interested in putting out another 3D game based around the Bionic Commando franchise. The previous title, which was created by the now defunct developer GRIN, was a flop, selling just 27,000 units in North America in its first month on sale.
