Mass Effect 3 is getting ready to be released next March by BioWare and Electronic Arts, but the studio knows that fans of the role playing shooter series want the series to continue well after the third title.

Mass Effect games have proved that the traditional third person shooter experience can be combined with classic role playing game mechanics, like dialog wheels, plot choices and customization features, and appeal to all sorts of players.

Now, with the third game promising to end the current trilogy of titles that focused on Commander Shepard, BioWare producer Casey Hudson revealed that he and his team are more than aware that fans don’t want this to be the end of the series, as a whole.

“There are a lot of possibilities,” Hudson told Game Reactor, via CVG, about the future of the franchise. “We're obviously pretty focused on ME3, but we know that people are going to want another ME game, and there are lots of different things we can do.”

Hudson went on to highlight just how much game distribution is changing these days, what with digital services and new platforms, but said that there are no specific plans for the sci-fi, role playing shooter series as of yet.

“There are now technologies coming out for platforms, different ways in which people will be distributing games in the next generation, so all of that is congealing. We don't have specific plans yet, but we know that we're going to do something.”

BioWare is now in charge of its own EA label, so the studio now needs to coordinate quite a lot of projects at the same time. Hopefully, in between other titles, the Canadian studio will be able to continue its existing franchises, including Mass Effect or Dragon Age, but also older ones, like Jade Empire, which was talked about more recently.
