14 DAY TRIAL // Some guys over at gamefaqs.com board were discussing a pretty interesting rumor, that takes another hit at this month's blockbuster title, BioShock. Since I've just criticized it for its screen clipping bug, let me lay out another flaw for you: rumor has it that you can only activate BioShock twice, having to buy the game again after that.
The gamers who were discussing this, seemed shocked by the perspective and they have every right to think about the mishaps that can make you reactivate BioShock. What about a virus? What about a hard drive failure? What if we buy another PC? So, if I'm a regular gamer and I format my PC three times, it's "Bye, bye!" BioShock?
I hope that this remains a rumor, because if it were true, the gaming community would once again start "throwing stones" at 2K. Many of us, Windows users are already traumatized by the activation limit of the operating system, so, finding the same strict rules in a videogame can surely generate a huge amount of frustration.
The reason for such a drastic measure? It helps the fight against piracy... But, piracy is what it creates, because the gamers that bought BioShock once, will most likely not buy it again and download it from the Internet. Maybe we'll see this happening with all major titles in the future and while this wouldn't bother a console owner it sure spoils the day of a PC gamer that changes his system configuration every month.
Unlike the screen clipping, this potential flaw can't be patched, so all that's left to do is pray and hope for the best. So, you guys who bought the game, is this piece of information real or not? The entire gaming community awaits for an answer. In the meantime the guys from the board where I first saw this theory surfacing mentioned that the activation process MIGHT not work for different PC-s, allowing you to activate BioShock as many times as you want on your computer. Still waiting for some real info...
