Screen clipping can be fatal for a modern game

We're angry, frustrated and puzzled to see this happening to one of the most awaited games of the year... See the image on the left side of the screen? Weird, isn't it? Turns out that the normal area from the image is what the gamer sees while playing the BioShock demo on a widescreen monitor. However, those red areas show the extra space that's added while playing the game in a 4:3 ratio. If you don't believe us, feel free to check out this piece of news and follow the download link it includes in order to get to play the BioShock PC demo.

Does BioShock really support widescreen resolutions? The gamers should see both the top and bottom of the standard image, but it seems that this is too much for 2K. This problem has generated a huge scandal on the 2K forums and it first surfaced on the Widescreen Gaming Forum. You might think that this bug is a singular misfortune that happened to an extremely unlucky gamer, but it's not, as more and more gamers have started reporting similar problems, both on their PC-s and Xbox 360-s.

Yeah, it seems that the many gamers who have spent a lot of cash buying super widescreen displays will feel the frustration generated by the screen clipping. There are no official comments about this problem yet and we're curious to see if it also appears in the full game, since it was only present in the demo. Will a patch fix this and when is it coming?

Things have gone from bad to worse as, following the first forum post about this issue, many people have started canceling their preorders of the game, at least until the bug gets fixed. It may seem that it's all "much ado about nothing ", but this nasty issue also messes up the textures and the camera view. Let's hope that we won't see this happening again too soon, because I don't know if the gaming community can stand such disappointments without starting a riot.
